Seattle Attorney Michael Withey Receives Pursuit of Justice Award

Award recognizes commitment to access to justice

CHICAGO, Sept. 23, 2011 — The _ Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section is honoring attorney Michael Withey of Seattle with its Pursuit of Justice Award, which recognizes lawyers and judges who have shown outstanding merit and who excel in providing access to justice for all.

“In addition to successfully representing plaintiffs in challenging personal injury cases over the course of his 37 year career, Mike Withey has dedicated his personal time to serving the public, leaving a significant legacy for our region. For these reasons and more, TIPS is honored to present him with its Pursuit of Justice Award,” said Section Chair Randy Aliment of Seattle.

The award will be presented to Withey during the TIPS Fall Leadership Meeting at The Fairmont Olympic Hotel in Seattle on Oct. 13 at 5:30 p.m. during the Joint Welcome, Diversity in the Profession and Pursuit of Justice Awards Reception.

Withey is a plaintiff attorney with the Law Offices of Michael Withey. With more than 37 years of experience, his practice specializes in cases against corporations, governmental agencies and other defendants. He has experience in many practice areas including automobile accidents, construction site accidents, faulty products and pharmaceutical wrongs, government liability, consumer protection, traumatic brain injury, mold and chemical exposure and constitutional rights, and public interest litigation

He received his Bachelor of Arts in international relations from Pomona College in 1968 and his Juris Doctor from the University of San Francisco in 1971.

Withey is a licensed member of the Washington State Bar Association and the State Bar of California. He is also a member of the Washington State Association for Justice, American Association for Justice, Public Justice Foundation, American Board of Trial Advocates, American Constitution Society and the National Crime Victim Bar Association. He served as president of the Public Justice Foundation, formerly the Trial Lawyers for Public Justice Foundation, from 1996 through 1997.

He has received a number of prestigious awards throughout his career. Withey received the Champion of Justice Award from the Trial Lawyers for Public Justice in 2006. He was named Trial Lawyer of the Year by the Washington State Trial Lawyers Association in 1990 and received the National Volunteer of the Year Award in 1992 from the American Lung Association.

Withey has received an AV rating, the highest rating given an attorney by Martindale-Hubbell for his extensive professional qualifications and high ethical standards. He has also been named one of the Best Lawyers in America every year since 2000.

The ABA Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section unites plaintiff, defense, insurance, and corporate counsel to advance the civil justice system. TIPS is a national source of expertise in tort, trial and insurance practice and brings lawyers together to share information and speak out on issues of importance.
