Established in 2016, Betika is still relative newcomers to the bookmaking industry. Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya they are owned by Shop and Deliver Limited and registered for gambling in African countries such as Kenya, Ethiopia and Ghana.
The company owns the licence issued by the Kenyan Betting Control and Licensing Board.
Betika has an affiliate program, where you can earn a minimum commission amount of 200 USD. You must have a minimum of 10 referred customers, however, to be eligible for this. If interested in the affiliate program you can register here.www.betika.com.
The website design is in keeping with most other sites, with the middle of the screen dedicated to the latest sporting events, with betslip and adverts on the right and sports betting down the left.
The layout of the sports could be better as Betika adopt logos to signify the sport rather than them being spelt out. Of course, some logos are universal such as Football, however, the logo they use for Rugby looks more like an American Football. To add to the confusion, the sports aren’t listed alphabetically, meaning you have to click each one in a process of elimination to find your sport.
Once you click the correct logo though, directly next to that there is a further categorisation for the various leagues of that sport. The Football section is a gambling bonanza, offering major European leagues as well as the obscure, such as the Ugandan Premier League and Omani League.
Betika offers more renowned sports for your online betting needs such as Football, Rugby and Boxing. However, they do lack a lot of the growing sports such as Mixed Martial Arts.
They have a separate section for the Shikisha bet, which is basically a same game bet builder.
Betika also has a casino section offering 14 different games, such as Roulette and Blackjack, with slot games rounding off the offering.
For those of you who like to do your gambling on the move, you can also download the Betika app to your mobile phone.
In the recent Liverpool versus Manchester City match, compared to some leading bookmakers, Betika led the way in the betting 10 minutes before kick-off, offering best odds about Man City and the draw, and equal odds for Liverpool, with a very low margin of 2.72% offering value for money.
The average margin for pre-match betting is between 2.5-4%.
Betika offers a comprehensive in-play offering consisting of mainly Football but also Handball, Basketball, Ice Hockey and Tennis to name a few.
Betika also offers live streaming on a portion of these games, but don’t expect any of the top leagues to be streamed. If, however, you are a fan of the Swiss, Greek or the Italian Serie C then this is the website for you.
The average margin for live betting is between 5-10%.
Freebies, Bonuses and Promotions
Betika’s welcome bonus is not advertised anywhere on the main page. However, a google search for this shows that the bonus is set at 25 Kenyan Shilling or “Bob” as it is also known, which equates to 16p in British money.
To get the welcome bonus you need to register for an account via SMS using the keyword “Betika” or through their website. On their T&C’s it doesn’t state that any other conditions need to be met.
The loyalty bonus comes two-fold. On your first deposit of 99 KES for the day, Betika will refund the transaction charges as a bonus.
You can also earn Betika Points on bets of at least 20 KES with minimum odds of 4.99. These two numbers are multiplied, then divided by 100 to give you your points for the bet. The bonus points can be converted into Kenyan shillings. For example, 500 points is worth 50 KES.
There is a help centre for Betika but this was not easily found. At the bottom of the page, there is a black arrow inside a grey box, if you click this you will find various links including the T&C’s and Help Centre.
There are articles within the Help Centre, but you can also use the search bar to find what you need quickly.
There is also a chat option in Betika. You can ask questions online. The response time is normally a few minutes.
Betika is also available on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as well as email and telephone.
If you have a Safaricom or Airtel registered mobile, you can sign up in Betika. It is also possible to register from the UK, but only if you have one of these mobile providers and roaming enabled.
If you have the above you can then click “register” on betika.com, enter your phone number, set up your password, confirm your age and confirm T&C’s then click register. You will receive a verification code via SMS which you enter onto the website, and then you are in business. There is no need for any official documents such as a Passport to be verified.
As payments are taken through Safaricom or Airtel the presumption is that the only money taken is Kenyan Shilling, there is no mention of any foreign currencies in their T&C’s.
The minimum bet that Betika will accept is 1 KES which is less than 1p. The maximum bet on single and multi-bets is 500,000 KES, roughly £3,300. This amount goes down to 50,000 KES (£330) on live betting.
The maximum payout on single, multi-bets, and casino is 1,000,000 KES, as is the maximum payout per customer, per day. So those who like placing long Saturday afternoon footy accumulators need to bear in mind the low maximum payout. There is also 20% tax to pay on your winnings.
There are very few customer reviews available online, but the ones found speak favourably of Betika. Many reviews mention “ultra-fast withdrawals” and “very customer-orientated customer support” and “reliability”.
Betika is registered with BCLB meaning they are subject to Kenyan law.
While the site appears safe and runs without any glitches there is no easily visible sign of who they are encrypted by.
Compared to other bookmaking businesses, the list of sports available for betting is not as comprehensive as some others, there is no Horse Racing, Formula One or UFC for example.
Their casino offering, while it does the basics well lacks variety.
The maximum bet and payout allowed are very small compared to other companies. This is perhaps understandable, being based in Kenya rather than the wider western world. But with their attractive margins offered on their bets being a big positive, allowing bigger bets and bigger wins may attract more business.
While it appears no country is restricted from betting with Betika, you can only deposit if registered with a Kenyan mobile provider.
Betika operates in English and French.
